Educational Autobiography
Elementary
I can personally relate the song, Do you want to know by Arctic Monkeys to my experiences with learning in elementary school. For the majority of my learning in elementary school, I was unhappy. I did not enjoy being forced to go to a small building and learning to read, write or solve addition problems. The lyrics really play on this and give me a connection to this song and elementary school. “So have you got the guts?\ Been wondering if you’re\ heart still open\ and if so I wanna know\ what time it shuts\ simmer down and pucker up.” Mostly abstract and figurative, this song is like the underline thoughts that flowed thought my mind during my time in school at an early age. For what I learned during school, was basically nothing other then the basics of reading and writing. The lyrics “Now i’ve though it through\ Crawling back to you\ Do I wanna know.” Really play on how my education change from going to school that I hated and went to home schooling where I took control of my education. |
Middle
For me I personal relate the song Riptide by Vance Joy to me experiences in middle school. The song caries the flow and rhythm that matches to my learning experiences during that period. The flow of the song in addition to the rhythm gives the felling of anti climactic base drop. The song bobs and weaves through the lyrics without being predictable like most songs that have an even mix of lyrics and accompaniment. All of this makes this song unique and serrate just like my middle school learning experience. My entire middle school experience was spent at home, home schooling myself which at first was fun and I felt that I was taking an active role in my education. But as time went on I slaked off and sometime didn't even get my school books out. The lyrics “I was scared of dentists and the dark,\ I was scared of pretty girls and starting conversations” are both figuratively and literally sums up my life from 6th grade to 8th. I was unmotivated to learn and maybe a little scared of it as well. I had to work out my school life and cheek myself with self evaluation but thought time and work I moved towards a better outcome for my education. |
High School
I have had an amazing time with my year and a half in high school, and with that time I can relate a song to my experiences. The song Turn up the speakers by Afrojack and Martin Garrix has carried that same rhythm and flow as my time in high school. The entire song is fast paced and exciting leaving little room for taking a breath. Which for me in the past year and a half has been just what the doctor ordered. I need the excitement to keep me motivated, willing to learn and engaged with my work. Each project that I took up during the last year and a half of high school has put me in a place of comfort and overall happiness. Which for me has been a massive improvement, looking back at elementary and middle school I have taken a large step towards the expectations I hold myself to as a learner and young person growing up with 21 first century goals and life style. |
