The project that Drew and I decided to do was a day in the life of story of Durango. Each day I would go out into downtown Durango and surounding areas to take photos of the environment and the individuals that make up this town. I went into restaurants, stores, the local college and homeless centers to take what A day in the life of Durango looks like. Unfortunately this project was not able to be finished as it took too long to compile the photos in a professional manner that could be put on display.
Im glad its over but miss thats its gone at the same time. LINK gave me the chance to explore the different aspects of photography that I struggled to comprehend on my own. I miss the people I worked with and skills I explored as a photographer. This also gave me the chance to see how photography bussiness ran and the effort it takes to run your own business.
I've gotten really good and organization, really good. I've spent the majority working on re naming, recognizing and re everything else. I got to see the post production of so many photoshoots. Its great. I like to see this other side, it gives perspective to the other side of photography. My experience as a photographer was limited to a simple snap and send. Now I see that there is some much more to it as a professional, Taking the photo is the quickest. It's the weeks of editing that takes the most times and patiences. To find the perfect balance of skin tone, colors, and lighting while looking and fixing what seems like a thousand different things. I love and hate it. It's always good to be pushed to do something out of your element but sometimes it becomes uncomfortable.
This first week at illuminArts has left with an excess of information that left me feeling lost in a sea ideas and creativity. I learned so much. From how the business ran to how to run some obscure programs in photoshop. This broad range of information is leaving me with many options to take my personally photography to new heights. This week I did some much post production to the photos for my own project as well as the the products that were getting posted to the new business website. I feel great about the fact that they trust a high school student to work and help with the development of this creation. This week I also started my own project, The day in the life of Durango. Ill using the photography skills I learned in the office and taking them out into the real world. Applying them to my own photography skills and adapting to the variety obstacles i'll encounter. This will be great experience to grow as a person an individual as well as a photographer.
its only been 3 days at illuminarts and i'm ready to learn more. In the first and second day working at my internship. I started with a review of the basics. F-stops, shutter speed, Iso. At first it was a review, but Drew took it past that. He went in extreme depth with everything. Making one of these one of the most important photography learning experiences for me.
Ive officially secured an internship with illuminart Photography here in Durango Colorado. After spending the better part of a semester searching and communicating with Janae Hunderman my LINK coordinator to make this work. Its been long and it been frustrating searching for what its is that I want and what I can do over this 3 week period of time. Now that things are going forward planned out and ready. I'm ready to move out from the confines of school and work on something that has been a developing passion of mine.
